What do we value? What makes us different? What makes us proud to be Maka?
We thought that in the name of honesty, integrity and defining what makes Maka the unique restaurant that it is, that each month we'd share some items off our list of core values.
This month, we're proud to be Maka because We're As Organic as possible! This means that we strive to use as many organic ingredients as possible!
Why does this make us so happy?
First and Foremost we value our environment and the survival of our planet.
"According to many experts in the field of resource conservation and global warming, changes in farming practices worldwide could very likely form a centerpiece for climate stabilization across out planet. Organic farming practices may be able to greatly reduce carbon emissions associated with production and transport of synthetic fertilizers, and carbon sequestration (retention) by agricultural land could be greatly increased through organic farming practices. By cutting down on carbon emissions and capturing more carbon in croplands themselves, organic farmers might be able to change U.S. agriculture from being a net emitter (releaser) of carbon into the atmosphere to a net retainer of carbon. That change might be able to help reverse the problem of humankind's ever-increasing carbon footprint." - The George Mateljan Foundation (A not-for-profit foundation with no commercial interests or advertising. Our mission is to help you eat and cook the healthiest way for optimal health.)
We value our customers and define ourselves on quality food that tastes great. Being as organic as possible across the board is our tangible shoutout to these two values.
Being truly 100% organic is very rare in the restaurant industry, and nearly impossible. We're hoping that with each movement forward and as Maka grows and evolves, we'll become increasingly more organic.
We love you Maui, & are proud to be part of this wonderful community! Many mahalos!
